Today's post is for my friend Terri, who has a passion for lighthouses. Punta Gorda and the lighthouse just south of the point is located on the Northern California coast, known as the "Lost Coast" There are no roads leading to the location, you need to hike to the site which I did as the region just broke a record for the highest rainfall. Punta Gorda, Spanish for substantial point, is second only to Cape Mendocino as the farthest point of land westward along the California coast. The light was first exhibited on January 15, 1912, approximately seven months after the fog signal started operation.
